When Ingo Swann and I co-produced STAR CHILDREN in 1978-79, it was intended to be the soundtrack of the movie based on his soon to be best-selling psychic-spy novel, STAR FIRE.
The scientific research on quantum physics, consciousness and “the field” had not yet reached mainstream audiences. Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol and Lynn McTaggart’s The Field have since then popularized the work of Ingo Swann, Hal Puthoff and Russell Targ at SRI, as well as the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), which was founded by astronaut Edgar Mitchell.
In 2005, Jon Ronson’s book The Men Who Stare at Goats (as well as the movie starring George Clooney) also brought to mainstream audiences the research and techniques pioneered by Ingo Swann, most significantly remote viewing. For instance, researchers would give Ingo coordinates of latitude and longitude, and ask Ingo to draw what he ‘saw’ there, without leaving the lab.
In 1973, I was introduced to the ‘new’ sciences by virtue of the landmark research I conducted for my Master’s degree on healing, music and consciousness.
Thus, in 1977, when I received a phone call from Ingo Swann, I knew his reputation. He was the phenomenal psychic researcher and test subject who was already famous for the accuracy of his remote viewing for NASA of the dark side of the moon, and many locations on Earth.
So imagine my surprise when he said, "I love your music. It does something that other music doesn't. I've written a new book that is guaranteed to be a best-seller, about a rock superstar who suddenly discovers astonishing psychic powers.
“Each chapter starts with a song. I've written the lyrics. I want YOU to compose and arrange a pop/rock soundtrack to the movie that will be based on the book."
We met for lunch, and handed me a folder with the manuscript and the lyrics. "I'll be back in 4 months. Have everything ready. Hire a studio and musicians, so we can hit the ground running.
I want to control the rights to the soundtrack for the movie. And we’ll include interludes of your healing music to introduce you to millions of Americans."
Needless to say, I was blown away. I tapped back into my earlier incarnation as a jazz/ rock fusion trumpet and guitar player, and found myself remarkably inspired. Some of the melodies and chord progressions seemed to just pop into my head. At one point, I asked Ingo if he had anything to do with that.
He smiled his Cheshire grin, and refused to confirm or deny. I don't have any scientific ‘proof’, but you can hear for yourself how the soundtrack that we co-produced packs an amazing vibrational upliftment. The music is a combination of space/rock/pop and disco (remember, Saturday Night Fever was rocking all the charts.)
Alas, shortly after his book, Star Fire, was published in this country, it vanished overnight. This was stunning, since it was already a best seller in several countries like England and Japan. The next day, the movie deal fell through. When I asked Ingo what happened, he would never answer. “Nice weather we’re having, isn’t it?”
But I could tell it really affected him, in a negative way. Hardly anyone ever got to hear Star Children, the best soundtrack album to a movie that never was.
Until now. I recently discovered the master tape, which we thought had been destroyed in a studio vault fire. I remastered it, and it is now available on my website and through all major streaming platforms. Check out samples and download the MP3 right here.
STAR CHILDREN has recently been republished as well. I got my new copy from Amazon. It is a truly amazing novel, and highly recommended. The lyrics to the songs make more sense in the context of the novel.
